How to make cumin black pepper prawns

First let’s go through the simple ingredients for making this black pepper prawns with cumin recipe.

PRAWNS: For this recipe, you will need about 12 to 15 prawns that are shelled and deveined. I have used the white variety of prawns but the red sea prawns are even more flavourful. Keep the heads of the prawns intact as it adds a distinct flavour to the gravy.

RED CHILLI POWDER: Use 1.5 tbsp of red chilli powder to spice up the gravy. I used Kashmiri red chilli powder for this recipe. The gravy has a rich vibrant red colour but is low in spice level.

TURMERIC POWDER: Just add a dash or 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.

PEPPER & CUMIN: Grind 1/2 a teaspoon of pepper and 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds and add it to the gravy.

GARLIC: Finely chop 7 to 8 flakes of garlic and add it to the recipe. My family generally does not add ginger but considering its health benefits, I suggest adding a small piece of finely chopped ginger.

GREEN CHILLIES: Using green chillies for this recipe is optional but we prefer to add 2 or 3 chillies slit.

TAMARIND: We use tamarind juice for most of our recipes, especially seafood. To get tamarind juice, soak a small ball of tamarind in 1/2 a cup of warm water for a few minutes. Then squeeze out the tamarind to extract the pulp to get nice tangy juice.

OIL: Use 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. For this recipe, we top the gravy with oil and then cook it.
