About Butter Garlic Squids

The origins of butter garlic squids can be traced back to Mediterranean cuisine, known for its use of fresh seafood and simple yet flavourful ingredients. Butter, garlic, and squids are a match made in culinary heaven, and this combination has been enjoyed by coastal communities for centuries.

The dish gained popularity globally as people discovered the delightful harmony of the buttery sauce and the tender squid. Today, butter garlic squids are a staple in seafood restaurants worldwide, showcasing the versatility and distinct flavours of the sea.

Health Benefits of Eating Squids

Squids are not only a treat for your taste buds but also pack a punch when it comes to nutritional value. These cephalopods are an excellent source of lean protein, low in fat, and rich in essential vitamins and minerals. They contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are known for promoting heart health and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Additionally, squids are a good source of iron, zinc, and B vitamins, which contribute to the overall well-being of your body. Incorporating squids into your diet can boost your immune system, improve brain health, and support healthy skin.

Where to Find Fresh Squids

Finding fresh squids and other seafood can sometimes be a challenge. While local fish markets and seafood markets are excellent options, you can also consider visiting coastal areas or fishing communities where you can get them straight from the source.

Additionally, supermarkets have a seafood section that offers fresh and frozen options. When purchasing squids, always look for those that are firm, shiny, and have a pleasant aroma of the sea.

Ingredients for Butter Garlic Squids

To create a memorable dish of butter garlic squids, you’ll need a handful of ingredients. Here’s a list of what you’ll need:

  • Fresh squids: Look for squids that have firm, translucent flesh and a slightly sweet aroma. Opt for smaller-sized squids, as they tend to be more tender and cook faster.
  • Butter: Butter adds richness and a creamy texture to the dish. You may prefer to add salted or unsalted butter.
  • Garlic: Fresh garlic is essential for its robust and aromatic qualities. Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves to infuse the dish with its distinct flavour.
  • Seasoning: Enhance the taste of your butter garlic squids with a pinch of salt, freshly ground black pepper, and a sprinkle of mixed dried herbs of your choice, paprika or chilli powder and fresh herb like parsley or coriander.
  • Lemon: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice adds a refreshing tang that balances the richness of the butter and complements the flavours of the squids.

How To Make Butter Garlic Squids

Now that you have all the necessary ingredients, let’s dive into the step-by-step process of preparing the perfect butter garlic squids:

1. Clean the squids: Start by cleaning the squids thoroughly. Remove the thin outer skin by peeling it off. Cut off the head, tentacles, and ink sac. Rinse the squids under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel and cut them into rings.

2. Marinate the squids: Place the cleaned squids in a shallow dish. Add ginger-garlic paste, pepper powder, mixed herbs, chilli garlic sauce and salt. Make sure the squids are evenly coated in the marinade. Allow them to marinate for at least 20 minutes, allowing the flavours to penetrate the squid’s flesh.

3. Heat the frying pan: Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Allow the oil to heat until it shimmers.

4. Fry the squids: Carefully add the marinated squids to the hot skillet, making sure they are in a single layer. Cook the squids for about 5 to 8 minutes, or until they turn opaque and slightly golden brown. Once the squids are cooked, remove and set aside.

5. Sauté in butter and garlic: Add butter to the same pan and fry the minced garlic until the raw smell goes away. Then add in the lemon juice and fried squids and sauté for one or two minutes. Finally, sprinkle them with freshly chopped herbs, such as parsley or coriander. This will add a burst of freshness and elevate the flavours of the dish.

6. Serve and enjoy: Transfer the butter garlic squids to a serving plate . Serve them hot as an appetizer or main course. Pair them with a side of salad or steamed vegetables for a well-balanced meal.

Tips for Achieving the Perfect Butter Garlic Squid Dish

To ensure your butter garlic squids turn out perfectly every time, here are some tips and tricks to keep in mind:

1. Use fresh squids: Freshness is key when it comes to seafood. Look for squids that have a firm texture, a sweet aroma, and no signs of discoloration or sliminess.

2. Don’t overcook the squids: Squids have a delicate texture and can become rubbery if overcooked. Keep a close eye on them while cooking and remove them from the heat as soon as they turn opaque and slightly golden brown.

3. Experiment with seasonings: While butter and garlic are the stars of the dish, feel free to experiment with additional seasonings and spices to suit your taste. Red chilli flakes can add a hint of heat, while a sprinkle of paprika can lend a smoky flavor.

4. Squeeze fresh lemon juice: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice adds tanginess that balances the richness of the butter and enhances the flavours of the squids. Always use fresh lemon juice for the best results.
