Crispy Fried Chicken Drumsticks

These Crispy Fried Chicken Drumsticks are sure to impress your family and friends. They are light and crispy on the outside and moist and juicy inside.

Chicken Drumsticks have firm dark meat and hence are great for frying. For this recipe, we marinate chicken drumsticks in spices and rest them in the refrigerator. We then dredge these in rice flour and deep fry them to get Crispy Fried Chicken Drumsticks. This recipe works for whole chicken legs and wings as well.

A favourite among kids and adults as well, Chicken Drumsticks are great for family dinners. They also make great appetizers when entertaining guests or on special occasions. These fried drumsticks are one of the best chicken starters that you can make at home.

Crispy Fried Chicken Ingredients

  • Chicken. Generally, I use Chicken Drumsticks for this recipe but you could even use whole chicken legs or wings. Prick the drumsticks so that they absorb the flavours of the spices during marination.
  • Flour. Rice flour, cornflour, or breadcrumbs works best for this recipe. This gives a light and crispy coat to the drumsticks. You can literally hear the crunch when you bite into these chicken drumsticks.
  • Oil for frying. We deep fry the drumsticks for 6 to 8 minutes. The chicken gets perfectly cooked and the meat is so moist and flavourful with a wonderful crunch outside.
  • Marination. This marination adds a great flavour to the chicken and its just irresistible. Apply these ingredients to the chicken drumsticks and marinate them for at least an hour for the flavours to seep in.
    • Green paste – 2- 3 tbsp (Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup, green chillies -4, ginger 1″, garlic-4 cloves)
    • Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
    • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
    • Beaten Egg – 01
    • Black Salt – 1/4 tsp
    • Salt – 1 tsp

Step by Step Instructions

Step I.
Pierce all the chicken drumsticks and marinate with ingredients under “Marination”. Then allow them to marinate for at least one hour in the refrigerator.

Step II.
After an hour of marination, take about 3/4 cup of rice flour and coat the chicken drumsticks evenly with the flour. Press well so that the flour sticks to the chicken and stays intact while frying.

Step III.
Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan. Shake off the excess flour from the chicken drumsticks and immerse them in the hot oil. Fry on a medium to high flame for 6 to 8 minutes turning once or twice after 2 minutes. After approx. 8 minutes you will get perfectly fried Crispy Chicken Drumsticks

Serving Suggestions

Serve these Crispy Fried Chicken Drumsticks as an appetizer or side dish. Serve with a Mayo-based dipping sauce or Green Mint and Coriander Chutney.

These Chicken Drumsticks make a perfect accompaniment to any rice-based dishes or a Simple Vegetable Pulao with some raita.

How to Re-heat Fried Chicken Drumsticks

These Crispy Fried Chicken Drumsticks are best served hot to enjoy their crispy covering. When cooled completely they tend to lose their crispy coat but they are yet moist, juicy, and flavourful. The key is to reheat the drumstick to regain its crispy coat, without drying it out.

To re-heat the Chicken Drumsticks, place them in a preheated air fryer or an oven at 200 deg C for 5 to 8 minutes or until they turn crispy.

You could also re-heat the drumsticks in a microwave oven for one or two minutes and they will turn crispy once slightly cooled.
