What is Chicken Keema?
Chicken mince is called Chicken Keema or Kheema in India. Keema is basically ground meat. Chicken Keema is traditionally used for making kebabs and also other chicken appetizer recipes.
Chunks of meat are put in a mincing machine and then minced to make keema. Besides Chicken, the meat could be beef, mutton, or even pork. This minced meat is then used to make a variety of recipes like cutlets, meatball stew, and so on.
The recipe in this post is an easy recipe of Chicken Keema, a sort of curry that you can have with chapati or rice for lunch, dinner, or also breakfast. I have added green peas to this recipe and this protein-rich dish makes a complete meal when eaten with rice or chapatis.
You can make this recipe with Mutton or beef kheema also but for the health-conscious, Chicken keema is the perfect option.
This recipe has the right blend of spices which is very flavourful. My kitchen fills up with mesmerizing aroma whenever I make this recipe of Chicken Keema with peas.
You could adjust the spices to suit your taste. You can also skip the green peas and add potatoes instead, but we just love this keema with green peas recipe.
How to make Chicken Keema?
Firstly, you will have to marinate the chicken keema. I have made this recipe using 450 grams of chicken keema. I washed it well and then marinated with the following ingredients –
- Red Chilly powder – 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Ginger/garlic/green chilly paste – 1 tbsp
- Yogurt – 1 tbsp
- Tomatoes – 2, pureed
- Salt to taste
- After about 30 minutes of marination, heat oil in a pan and saute chopped onions till translucent.
- After the onions turn translucent, add the chicken keema and then cover the vessel and cook till the mince is done.
- Then, add one cup of frozen green peas and cook for another 2 -3 minutes till the peas are tender.
- Finally, add lemon juice, garam masala powder, and then garnish with chopped coriander leaves and green chillies.
Serving Suggestions
Serve Chicken Keema with lemon wedges and chapatis or Rotis.
Generally, many prefer to have keema with pav/bread. Keema pav is most enjoyed breakfast dish in India and available in restaurants serving non-vegetarian meals.
