Green Fish Curry Recipe

GREEN FISH CURRY RECIPE, another most popular recipe of the East Indian Cuisine. Delicious and simple to prepare with ingredients readily available at home, Green Fish Curry tops the menu.

We make this Green fish curry on weekdays for lunch and usually have it with steamed rice or Rotis. Fish like Indian Salmon (Ravas), Kingfish, or any fish is good for this delicious green fish curry. For this recipe, I have used a slice of a big Rawas cut into 2″ cubes.

Not all East Indian recipes use Bottle masala, as is generally assumed. This Green Fish Curry recipe is a coconut-based curry with mild spices.

Fresh coriander leaves, ginger, garlic, cumin, and few whole spices render an awesome flavour to the gravy. We add tamarind to give this curry a slight tang. A hint of vinegar could also be added for that extra tangy flavour.

Let’s go through the ingredients for Green Masala Fish Curry Recipe

This is a coconut-based curry that has the freshness of green coriander leaves. The green colour of this fish curry comes from a generous bunch of coriander leaves that are added to make the masala paste.

Ingredients for the Fish Curry

  • Coconut – We prefer to use freshly grated coconut for this Green Masala Fish Curry. Coconut milk is also fine, but then add it towards the end of the cooking.
  • Coriander Leaves – Use half a bunch of fresh coriander leaves for this recipe. Add more coriander if you want a brighter green colour. You could also add a few mint leaves if required.
  • Green Chillies – No red chillies or red chilli powder is used for this fish curry recipe. Therefore, add green chillies to suit your spice level.
  • Ginger & Garlic – A few flakes of garlic and a small piece of ginger needs to be added to make the masala paste.
  • Cumin Seeds – Add about a teaspoon of cumin seeds. You could also add some coriander seeds if you want. But I generally skip coriander seeds when I add coriander leaves.
  • Tamarind – A lime-sized ball of tamarind may be soaked in warm water for a few minutes. Then squeeze the tamarind to extract the pulp. Use tamarind paste if you have it readily available.
