How to make Fried Fish?
Let’s learn how to make fried fish – This fried fish recipe that is easy to prepare uses Indian spices available locally and found in all Indian kitchens. There’s nothing elaborate about the spices, just simple everyday spices.
Let’s go through the ingredients for making this Fried Fish Recipe in Indian style. There is no fixed recipe, you could choose to use any spice that you like or anything that is readily available.
Ingredients for Fried Fish
- FISH – Choose the fish you want to fry and make sure it’s fresh. Common varieties include salmon, seer, mackerels, pomfret, etc. We used about 4 medium slices of black pomfret for this fried fish recipe.
- CHILLI POWDER – Any red chili powder will be fine, use it as per your spice tolerance level. We like to use Kashmiri chilli powder for its red vibrant colour and mild spice level.
- CORIANDER POWDER – Use store-bought coriander powder or just blend some toasted coriander seeds to get a fine powder. Don’t worry if it is slightly coarse, it would be just as fine.
- GINGER GARLIC PASTE – Equal quantities of ginger and garlic can be added or simply use a teaspoon of ginger powder and garlic powder.
- TURMERIC POWDER – Always add turmeric powder while marinating the fish. You will only need a small quantity. You may also like to add a pinch of pepper powder too.
- LEMON JUICE – Add the juice of half a lemon or a tbsp of vinegar. This adds a little tang to the fish which is just wonderful.
How To Fry Fish ? (Recipe for Fry Fish)
Prep the fish.
After getting the perfect fish fillets, you may like to wash them thoroughly and pat dry with a kitchen towel to get a crispy fried fish.
Combine the Marination Ingredients.
Once you have the ingredients ready simply combine them to make a paste with a little water. Then apply this spicy masala paste to the fish slices and allow it to marinate for 15 to 20 minutes if you have the time. But if you are in a hurry you could just skip the marination time.
Start Frying the Fish.
Heat the pan well and then add oil of your choice such as canola, sunflower, rice bran, etc. If using olive oil, please take care to use the one that is meant for frying. Allow the oil to heat for a few seconds before you add the fish fillets.
Fry the Fish on Both Sides.
Fry at least 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Do not forcibly try to flip over the fish while frying let it release on its own. If you find the fish sticking to the pan it means that it needs a few more seconds to get done. Now flip over and let the fish fry for another 3 to 4 minutes or till done.
Add Extra Flavour to the Fish.
Once the fish is evenly fried to make it even more appetizing and delicious, you can sprinkle herbs like parsley, coriander and some lemon juice.
Serving Suggestions
Serve fried fish as a starter or as an accompaniment to your main course meals. Simply enjoy it with a plate of dal and rice and salad. Also pairs well with cooked vegetables such as Beans Foogath , Drumstick Foogath, Sauteed Cabbage and so on.
