Before you start, it’s a good idea to gather all of the ingredients you will need for this recipe. All you need is chicken drumsticks, yogurt or curds, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, pepper powder, cumin powder and orang-red food colour.
You will also need a large skillet or a fry pan and tongs to cook the drumsticks. With all of these items ready to go, you’re one step closer to enjoying delicious pan fried chicken.

How To Cook Fried Chicken Drumsticks
Prepare the Drumsticks.
Before you get to cooking, it’s important to prepare the drumsticks. Wash them under cold water, making sure to remove any excess moisture and fat. Pat them dry and generously add in the marination ingredients. Make sure to coat the entire surface of the drumstick for maximum flavour.
Marinate the Drumsticks.
To add some extra flavour to your drumsticks, you should marinate them before cooking. Marinate for at least an hour in the refrigerator. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until everything is evenly mixed and then apply the mixture to the drumsticks.
Pan Fry the Drumsticks.
Next, heat your skillet over medium-high heat and add enough oil to coat the bottom. Once the oil begins to shimmer, carefully place the drumsticks in the pan. Do not overcrowd the pan or overlap the chicken. Allow each side of the drumstick to fry for about 5 minutes before flipping them over and cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes on the other side. Continue this process until all sides are golden brown and cooked through completely.

Equipment
- 1 Skillet or Fry pan
Ingredients
- 6 Chicken Drumsticks, wash and pat dry
- ¼ cup Yogurt/Sour Curds
- 1 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
- ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Pepper Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder
- 1 tsp Salt or use as per taste
- ¼ tsp Orange-red food colour (optional)
- 3 – 4 tbsp Oil for frying
Instructions
- Wash Drumsticks and pat dry with kitchen towels
- In a bowl add all the ingredients for marination and mix well. Apply this marination all over the chicken drumsticks and allow to rest for 1 hour.
- Heat a pan and add 2 to 3 tbsp oil and place the chicken drumsticks. After 5 minutes flip over and continue to fry for another 3 to 4 minutes.
- Fry the chicken drumsticks all over until they turn golden brown. Remove on kitchen towels to drain out the excess oil.
- Serve with onions and lemon or mint coriander chutney.
- Enjoy with some grilled vegetables of a large bowl of salad for a perfect meal.
Notes
- Marinate the chicken drumsticks for at least 30 minutes to an hour. You could also leave it to marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
- Do not overcrowd the pan while frying and fry on a medium heat.
- Frying time will vary depending on the pan and the heat.
