Ingredients for Sweet & Sour Chicken:

For Marination:

  • 450 grams of Boneless chicken, cubed
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Crushed Pepper
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 2 tbsp Cornflour
  • 2 tbsp Maida/AP flour

For Sweet & Sour Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Hot Chili Sauce
  • 3 tsp Sugar or Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp White Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Dark Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Cornflour
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Other Ingredients:

  • 1/4 Yellow Bell Pepper, cubed
  • 1/4 Green Bell Pepper, cubed
  • 1/4 Red Bell Pepper, cubed
  • 1 tsp Oil for cooking
  • Oil for deep frying the chicken

Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Make Sweet and Sour Chicken

Step 1. Marinate the Chicken:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cubed chicken with salt, crushed pepper, egg, cornflour, and maida (all-purpose flour).
  • Mix well until the chicken pieces are evenly coated.
  • Set aside for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the chicken to tenderize.

Step 2. Prepare the Sweet & Sour Sauce:

  • In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato ketchup, hot chili sauce, brown sugar (or sugar), white vinegar, dark soy sauce, cornflour, and water.
  • Stir until the sugar is dissolved, and the cornflour is fully incorporated.

Step 3. Fry the Chicken:

  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the marinated chicken pieces in batches. Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 4. Cook the Vegetables:

  • In the same pan or wok, retain 1 tsp of oil.
