Easy Sweet And Sour Chicken Recipe

Crispy Chicken in a delectable Sweet and Sour Sauce that you can easily make at home. It's quick and easy to make that even beginners can attempt to make this classic dish.

Ingredients
  

For the Marination

  • 450 grams Boneless chicken cubed
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Crushed Pepper
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 2 tbsp Cornflour
  • 2 tbsp Maida/AP flour

For the Sweet & Sour Sauce

  • ¼ cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Hot Chili Sauce
  • 3 tsp Sugar or Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp White Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Dark Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Cornflour
  • ½ cup Water
  • ½ tsp Salt

Other Ingredients

  • ¼ Yellow Bell Pepper cubed
  • ¼ Green Bell Pepper cubed
  • ¼ Red Bell Pepper cubed
  • 1 tsp Oil for cooking
  • Oil for deep frying the chicken

Instructions
 

Marinate the Chicken

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cubed chicken with salt, crushed pepper, egg, cornflour, and maida (all-purpose flour).
  • Mix well until the chicken pieces are evenly coated.
  • Set aside for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the chicken to tenderize.

Prepare Sweet & Sour Sauce

  • In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato ketchup, hot chili sauce, brown sugar (or sugar), white vinegar, dark soy sauce, cornflour, and water.
  • Stir until the sugar is dissolved, and the cornflour is fully incorporated.

Fry Chicken

  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the marinated chicken pieces in batches, frying until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the chicken from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Cook the Vegetables

  • In the same pan or wok, retain 1 tsp of oil.
  • Add the cubed yellow, green, and red bell peppers, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are slightly softened but still crunchy.

Mix well and Serve

  • Pour the sweet and sour sauce into the pan with the bell peppers.
  • Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Add the fried chicken pieces to the pan, tossing them in the sauce until they are well coated.
  • Allow everything to cook together on high heat for another 2 minutes, letting the chicken absorb the sauce.

Notes

  1. Add sauces as per your taste.
  2. Don't over fry the bell pepper cook them till  done and yet crispy.
  3. Adjust salt to taste.
