This classic English dessert has been enjoyed by generations of families since the 1800s. It was originally made by soaking dried fruit in brandy, sugar, and spices before adding raisins and nuts. Today, there are different versions of Christmas Pudding recipes but we still use dried fruits soaked in alcohol.

Christmas Pudding Ingredients
The ingredients for the Christmas Pudding are similar to a Christmas Cake. A Christmas Pudding has bread crumbs and no rising agent and unlike the Christmas Cake, it is steamed for a couple of hours. Ingredients such as butter and eggs are common, let’s find out more –
- Butter – 125 grams
- Brown sugar 100 grams
- Caramel Syrup – 2 tbsp
- Eggs – 2 whole
- Dry fruits – 300 to 350 grams soaked in 90 ml of Rum (cranberries, cherries, apricot, raisins, or any fruits of your choice)
- Zest of one whole orange
- Spice mix – 1 tsp (2″ cinnamon, 4 cloves, 4 cardamoms & 1 pc nutmeg)
- Fresh bread crumbs – 2 cups (approx. 5 slices of bread)
- Flour/maida – 2 tbsp
- Vanilla essence – 1 tsp
How is Christmas Pudding Made?
If you’re looking for something different for your holiday table, try this easy recipe for Christmas pudding. You won’t believe how good it tastes! Just follow these three simple steps –
- Step I.
Combine butter, sugar, eggs, bread crumbs, flour, and spices in a large bowl. Also, add the zest of orange and vanilla essence to flavour the pudding.
- Start by creaming the butter and sugar with a whisk or wooden spoon. You could also use the electric beater and beat until smooth. Also, add the caramel syrup for a lovely brown colour.
- Next, stir in the eggs, combine well and then add the soaked fruits, along with the liquid. Also add orange zest, vanilla extract, and the spice mix.
- Now add fresh bread crumbs and finish off with 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour/maida.
- Step II.
Grease a pudding mould, approx 17 cm in diameter and 10 cm in depth. and transfer the pudding mixture into it. Press down the mixture into the mould with a spatula. Then cover the top of the bowl with parchment paper and silver foil. Secure it with a kitchen string or twine, if needed.
- Heat a steamer or a pot of water and place a stand or a plate into it. Place the pudding on the stand and cover the pot/steamer. Steam on a very low heat for exactly 2 hours.
- Step III.
Unmould the Christmas Pudding onto a serving plate and serve it with whipped cream. Unmould when the pudding is still warm.

Notes
- Use preferably a Pudding mould of 17 cm diameter, 10 cm depth, and capacity of 750 grams.
- Do not over-mix the pudding mixture.
- Secure the bowl with parchment paper and foil before placing it in the steamer.
- Don’t let the pudding bowl touch the bottom of the steamer. Place a stand into the pot.
- Carefully unmould when the pudding is still warm and serve with whipped cream.
