About Bread Chops
One of our favourite Bread Snack recipe without any cheese. These Bread Chops are made using bread and potatoes. I spice the potatoes with Chinese sauces such as Soy, Chilli, and Oyster (optional) and also add tomato ketchup to give the topping a slight sweetish tangy flavour.
I like to cut the slices of bread into circles, to impress. You could also discard the edges and cut each slice of bread into two. Then scoop a spoonful of the topping and place it on the bread circle pressing to resemble a bun.
Top the bread chops with some sesame seeds and then deep fry the potato side in hot oil until it turns brown and crispy.

Ingredient for Bread Chops
BREAD. There are 16 to 17 slices of bread in 1 packet. You will need one whole packet of sandwich bread for this snack recipe.
POTATOES. These are snacks using Bread and Potato. You will need about 1/2 a kg or 3 to 4 medium potatoes. Boil, peel, and mash the potatoes for making a delicious topping for the bread chops.
SAUCES. For flavours I like to use Chinese sauces like Soy, Chilli, and Oyster. Also, a dash of tomato ketchup for a tangy taste.
VEGGIES. I add grated carrots and capsicum making it healthy and nutritious. You can use any finely chopped vegetables of your choice. Beans and sweet corns also work well for this recipe.
AROMAT POWDER. This is a seasoning that adds flavour to any recipe, especially a Chinese Style recipe. A teaspoon or half is enough to enhance the flavour of the dish. You can get Aromat Powder online from reputed manufacturers like Knorr. You could also use any tastemaker that you like.
OTHER INGREDIENTS. I have used a tablespoon of cornflour and the white of an egg. This makes a perfect binding and gives the topping a crispy texture.
How to Make Bread Snacks at Home
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Frying Time: 2 to 3 minutes
Serves: 5 to 8 persons
STEP I
Start by punching the bread slices into circles. Use one whole packet of bread and punch the slices into circles. Use any sharp rimmed steel glass or a cookie cutter.
Pro-tip – Don’t discard the outer edges of the bread slices. Coarsely grind them in your food processor or mixer and then roast in an open pan to get crunchy breadcrumbs. Store the breadcrumbs in an air-tight container and use as needed.
STEP-II
Next, boil 3 to 4 medium potatoes in a pressure cooker with little water. Peel the potatoes and then mash them with a potato masher or fork. To these mashed potatoes add soy sauce and chilli sauce. Also add tomato ketchup, cornflour, egg white, pepper, tastemaker, and salt to taste.
STEP III
Topping the bread. Scoop spoonful of the flavoured potatoes on the bead circle and press well to form a small bun shape. Top the bread chop with sesame seeds and press lightly so that it sticks to the potato topping.
STEP IV
Heat a pan or kadhai with oil. When the oil is hot enough, drop the bread chops and deep fry on the potato side. Fry on medium heat until you see the sides of the bread turns golden in colour. Remove with a slotted spoon on an absorbent tissue to drain out the excess oil. Fry 3 to 4 chops at a time depending on the size of your pan. Then fry the next batch in the same oil. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
Air Fry Method
Prepare all the bread chops as per the instructions above. Preheat the air fryer at 200 deg for 3 minutes. Now place the bread chops in the air fryer basket and brush with butter or oil. Airfry at 180 deg for 7 to 8 minutes or until the top turns brown and crispy.
The air fried chops are not greasy and has the same flavour and crunch as the deep fried chops. You may also like Air fried Potato Wedges which are a favourite among kids.
