Soft and Moist Milk Cake is just what you need if you are looking to bake a simple homemade cake to enjoy with your evenng tea or coffee! Made with basic ingredients such as flour, eggs, sugar, milk, and butter, this cake is light, fluffy, and delicious.

Hot milk combined with melted butter helps create the characteristic texture of a hot milk cake. It also adds moisture and richness. It is perfect for family teatime, so you can enjoy a slice whenever you crave something sweet and homemade. Moreover, this cake is delicious on its own.

Best of all, this recipe uses simple ingredients and requires no elaborate decorations. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for everyday baking.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour (maida) – 170 gms
  • Eggs – 3
  • Sugar – 150 gms (powdered sugar, or 150 gms granulated sugar, or use caster sugar)
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp (only if using unsalted butter)
  • Vanilla essence – 1 tsp
  • Milk – 100 ml
  • Butter – 60 gms

How to Make Soft and Moist Milk Cake

1: Prepare the Dry Ingredients

First, sift the all-purpose flour into a bowl. Next, add the baking powder and mix well. If you are using unsalted butter, add half a teaspoon of salt as well. Set the mixture aside.

2: Beat the Eggs and Sugar

Next, break three eggs into a large mixing bowl and add the sugar. Beat the mixture until it becomes light, frothy and pale in colour. This step helps incorporate air into the batter, resulting in a lighter cake. After that, add the vanilla essence and mix briefly.

3: Fold in the Flour

Now, set aside the electric beater. Gradually add the flour mixture, a little at a time, to the beaten egg mixture. Using a spatula, gently fold the flour into the batter until it is fully incorporated. However, avoid overmixing, as this can affect the cake’s texture.

4: Prepare the Hot Milk Mixture

Meanwhile, heat the milk and butter together in a microwave or on the stovetop until the butter melts and the mixture is hot. Stir well to combine. Then, carefully pour the hot milk and butter mixture into the cake batter. Mix gently until everything is well combined and the batter is smooth.

5: Pour the Batter into the Tin

Next, line a 6-inch cake tin with baking paper. Pour the prepared batter into the tin and gently tap it on the counter a few times to release any large air bubbles. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 170°C.

6: Bake the Milk Cake

Place the cake tin in the preheated oven and bake at 170°C for approximately 30–35 minutes. However, baking times may vary depending on your oven. Therefore, insert a skewer into the centre of the cake to check whether it is done. If the skewer comes out clean, the cake is ready.

Step 7: Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the tin. After it has cooled completely, carefully unmould the cake and slice it. Finally, serve this soft and moist milk cake with your favourite cup of tea or coffee. Enjoy this simple homemade treat with your family!

Tips for a Soft and Moist Milk Cake

  • Sift the flour: This removes lumps and evenly combines the dry ingredients.
  • Beat the eggs well: Beat the eggs and sugar until light and frothy to incorporate air into the mixture.
  • Fold gently: Add the flour gradually and mix gently to retain as much air as possible.
  • Use hot milk: Make sure the milk and butter mixture is hot and the butter has melted before adding it to the batter.
  • Avoid overbaking: Check the cake after 30 minutes, as oven temperatures can vary.
  • Allow the cake to cool: Let the cake cool completely before slicing for neat pieces.
