How to Cook Black-Eyed Peas Curry

Ingredients

  • 250 grams Black Eyed Peas, soaked
  • Onion 1 medium, chopped
  • Tomato, 1 medium cubed
  • 1 inch Ginger, chopped or 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 – 3 Green chillies slit
  • 1½ tbsp Bottle Masala or curry masala

  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Method

  • First, soak 1 cup of black-eyed peas in water for 5 – 6 hours or preferably overnight.

  • Now add 1-inch piece chopped ginger and also 2 – 3 slit green chillies and stir fry for one minute. You can even choose to add ginger garlic paste instead of chopped ginger. Do not add more green chillies as we would be making the recipe using black-eyed peas and Bottle Masala.
  • Once the onion, ginger, and green chillies are sauteed add 1.5 tbsp Bottle Masala or curry masala and mix well. Sprinkle a little water to avoid the burning of masala.
  • Finally, put in the soaked black-eyed peas and salt and stir well. Then add in 2 cups of water and one chopped tomato. Cover the pressure cooker and set the flame on high.
  • After the first whistle, reduce the flame and then let the Black Eyed Peas cook on a low flame for 10 – 12 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with Rotis or Parathas. Also, goes well with steamed rice.
