Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add in the chopped onions. Fry the onions till they turn light brown.
Add the slit green chillies and chopped ginger and fry for a minute.
Now add the bottle masala or curry masala and mix well. Sprinkle a little water to avoid burning the masala.
Put in the soaked and drained black-eyed peas. Add 2 cups water, salt and the chopped tomato.
Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook on high flame till the 1st whistle blows. After the whistle reduce the flame and cook for 10 - 12 minutes.
Open the pressure cooker and reduce the gravy, if any on high flame. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Notes
Soak the black-eyed peas overnight for better results.
Add 2 cups water while cooking the black-eyed peas. Reduce the gravy to suit your requirement by placing the cooker on high flame.
Substitute Bottle masala with any curry masala or chilli powder with garam masala powder.
