How to Clean Clams
Cleaning the clams may intimidate you but I’ll show you an easy way out. This will take you just 5 minutes and you will have a bowl of cleaned clams ready for cooking.
Once you get the clams from the market, wash them a couple of times to get rid of any sand. You could also consider soaking the clams in water for a couple of minutes for the sand to settle down. Then wash them thoroughly, preferably in running water until they are squeaky clean.
Now add about half a cup of water and cook them uncovered for 4 to 5 minutes or until you see all the clams open up. You will find the meat sticking to one side of the shell. Please pick them up one by one and detach the empty shell and reserve the meat along with the shell. Any liquid remaining at the bottom of the vessel can be discarded.
