Clams Recipe (Indian) | How to Cook Clams Indian Style

Ingredients
  

  • 1 bowl Clams washed and cleaned
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • ½ cup Grated coconut
  • ¾ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • Curry leaves, a few
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

For the Masala Paste

  • 08 Nos Kashmiri Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp Coriander seeds
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 6 Garlic
  • Tamarind - a small ball.

Instructions
 

  • Wash the clams thoroughly and boil for 2 to 3 minutes in water until they open up. Now detach the empty shell and keep the shell with the meat intact.
  • Make a masala paste with ingredients listed under 'Masala Paste'
  • Now heat oil in a vessel and add one chopped onion and a few curry leaves. Saute until the onion turns translucent. Then add some red chilli powder and turmeric powder and also the washed clams. Add about half a cup of water and cook the clams covered for 5 to 8 minutes.
  • When the clams are cooked, add in the ground masala paste. Mix well and cook covered for at least 5 minutes.
  • Add a little turmeric to half a cup of freshly grated coconut and coarsely grind it. Add this coconut to the cooking clams and cover again for 2 minutes.
  • Finally, open the vessel and garnish the clams with fresh coriander leaves. Switch off the flame now as the clams are ready for serving.

Notes

  1.  Do not overcook the clams or else they will turn chewy.
  2.  Adjust chillies and spices according to the quantity of clams you are using.
  3. Add a little less salt to the dish.
