Chicken Mince with Vindaloo Masala is a delicious and quick recipe with green peas.
This chicken mince when cooked with vindaloo masala turns out to be extremely flavourful, spicy, and tangy. You can enjoy this for your lunch, dinner, or even breakfast. Simply, stuff this Chicken Mince into hot dog buns and you are good to go.
My mum used to make these Hot Dog rolls whenever we went to a school picnic. These hot dogs are very convenient to carry. You need to simply wrap them into butter paper and they stay fresh for a long time.
It is quick to make this mince when you have the Vindaloo Masala Paste ready with you. Moreover, you could use any mince of your choice, chicken, mutton, or beef, and follow the same recipe. Only that the cooking time will then differ.
How to cook Chicken Mince with Vindaloo Masala
If you already have the vindaloo paste ready with you then it’s faster to cook this chicken mince. Just add a few tablespoons to the mince while cooking and a delicious meal is ready.
If you do not have the Vindaloo Paste ready then blend these ingredients into a smooth paste with vinegar.
- Kashmiri Chillies – 20 Nos.
- Garlic – 2 whole pods
- Jeera/Cumin Seeds – 1 tbsp
- Ginger – 1-inch piece
- Vinegar 3/4 cup or more
Now let’s learn How to cook Chicken Mince with Vindaloo Masala
For this you will need –
Chicken Mince – You could also use beef or mutton mince for this recipe. I have not tried this recipe with pork mince but I guess it should work well too. I am using 500 grams of readymade Chicken Mince for this recipe.
Vindaloo Masala – You will need about 2 to 3 tablespoons of this masala, depending on the quantity of your mince.
Onions – I added 2 medium onions chopped and sauteed them until translucent. Also, add 2 slit chillies if you like it a little spicier.
Tomatoes – Adding tomatoes to this recipe is optional. Add tomatoes if you like but first check the sourness of your vinegar in the vindaloo masala. Tomatoes will further add a sour taste to the cooked mince.
Green Peas – I love green peas in the mince and hence add them. Like tomatoes, you could also choose to skip the green peas.
Turmeric Powder – Add a little to enhance the colour of your chicken mince.
Garam Masala – I add only 1 or 2 bay leaves while sauteeing the onions. A dash of homemade Garam Masala powder compliments the Chicken Mince cooked with Vindaloo Masala.
Oil/Ghee – I like to use ghee for cooking in this recipe. Feel free to use oil and this will not alter the taste of the dish.
Chicken Mince Hot Dog Recipe
To make an appetizing Hot Dog with chicken mince, let’s go through the recipe step by step.
- First, heat a pan with ghee or oil and add the bay leaves. Now add the onions and saute until the onions turn translucent.
- If you like to use tomatoes you could add them at this stage. Fry well till the tomatoes soften. It’s OK if you wish to omit tomatoes.
- Now add 2 to 3 tablespoons of the vindaloo masala paste and saute for a minute or two. Also, add the turmeric and garam masala powder.
- Then add the chicken mince and also the green peas, if using, and mix well. Add approx. 200 ml of water and allow the mince to cook well till done. This should take you approximately 8 to 10 minutes on a medium to low flame.
- Finally, check for seasonings and adjust accordingly. Finally, garnish with coriander leaves. Allow the chicken mince to cool before you could stuff it into the Hot Dog buns or rolls.
- Watch the video at the end of the Recipe Card to understand better.
To stuff the Chicken Mince into the Hot Dog Buns, slit open the bun sideways but do not divide the bun into two. Then slightly open the bun and heat it on a hot pan for a few seconds.
Now add a generous amount of the chicken mince into the bun and close it. You may also like to add some salad or lettuce leaves but we generally have it plain.
Enjoy it immediately or wrap the Hot Dog Buns with butter paper and carry it for your picnics.
