Spicy Tangy Pala Fish Curry with coconut is a traditional fish curry recipe. You can serve this with steamed rice or rice rotis. Quick and Easy to prepare this seasonal fish recipe will be on your menu every year.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 whole Pala Fish cut into slices
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 Green chillies slit
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves for garnish
  • 2 tbsp Oil for cooking

Masala Paste for Fish Curry

  • ½ cup Freshly grated coconut
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp Peppercorns optional
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 10 - 12 flakes Garlic
  • 4 Green Chillies optional
  • ½ cup Coriander leaves optional
  • 1 Tamarind - marble-size ball
  • 6 Dry Red chillies

Instructions
 

  • Wash Pala fish a couple of times and add salt and turmeric and set aside until you get the masala paste ready.
  • Blend ingredients for the Masala into a smooth paste with water.
  • Heat oil in a vessel and fry the masala paste for 2 to 3 minutes or until you see oil oozing out. Then add water to make the needed gravy.
  • When the curry comes to a boil add Pala fish which is marinating with salt and turmeric.
  • Cover and cook the fish for 6 to 8 minutes on medium heat. Then finally garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the heat.
  • To enhance the taste of the curry, add a tablespoon of vinegar (this is optional)

Notes

  1.  Get the fish cut into slices slantways
  2.  Adjust salt to taste
  3.  Do not overcook the fish.
  4. Add a tablespoon of vinegar, this enhances the tangy flavour of the Pala Fish Curry.
