We like to keep our recipe simple without adding too many spices, this way you can enjoy the taste of the dal while eating. Moreover, we cook this as a dry recipe so that we can eat it with chapatis or Rotis. But you could still have it with your rice as the recipe does not turn out too dry.
Since we soak this Sabut or Whole Masoor Dal for a few hours it cooks quickly in a Kadai with the lid on. But if you need to cook it in a pressure cooker you can follow the same method and cook for 3 to 4 whistles. The key here is not to make the dal mushy but keep it whole or sabut.
