The recipe has been passed down through generations in East Indian kitchens, with each home giving its own special touch. Ingredients for Beef Alimore – East Indian Beef Curry:
For the curry:
- Beef – 500 gms (cut into bite-size pieces)
- Oil – 3 tbsp
- Ghee – 1 tbsp
- Onions – 2 medium, sliced
- Ginger – 1 inch, chopped
- Garlic – 6 cloves, chopped
- Green Chillies – 3 to 4, chopped
- Vinegar – 2 tbsp
- Sugar – 1 tsp
- Salt – to taste
Dry Spices:
- Red Chilli Powder – 2 tsp (adjust to taste)
- Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
- Pepper Powder – ½ tsp
- Garam Masala Powder – ½ tsp
Vegetables:
- Carrot – 1, diced
- Potato – 1, cubed
- Green Peas – ½ cup
- Tomato – 1, chopped
How To Make East Indian Beef Alimore
- Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker. Add whole spices. Stir in the beef pieces and cook till lightly browned.
- Add the sliced onions, chopped green chillies, ginger, garlic, salt, and sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add chopped tomato and let it soften.
- Add red chilli powder, turmeric, pepper powder, and garam masala. Mix well to coat the beef.
- Pour in enough water to cook the beef. Also, add vinegar. Cover and pressure cook on low heat till the meat is tender.
- Now let the pressure of the cooker release on its own, then open and add the carrots, green peas, and potatoes.
- Add water, as needed, and simmer until the vegetables are cooked.
- Adjust salt if needed and add a dash of garam masala powder. Serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
