Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup red lentils wash and soak for 15 minutes
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 green chillies slit
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp asafoetida
  • ½ tsp crushed peppercorns
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • 2 tsp oil
  • Water as needed

Instructions
 

  • Wash masoor dal or red lentil a few times and soak it for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add green chillies and onions, and sauté until onions turn golden.
  • Next, stir in the soaked red lentils, add salt, turmeric, asafoetida, and enough water to cook the lentils.
  • Let it simmer until the dal is soft and creamy.
  • Finally, garnish with crushed peppercorns and coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chapati.

Notes

  1. Do not overcook the dal to make it mushy.
  2. Adjust consistency by adding or reducing the amount of water.
  3. Add green chillies and salt as per taste.
