Tuna Croquettes with Potato is a fabulous croquettes recipe with potato. This makes a wonderful appetizer or starter. Moreover, this recipe is so quick and easy to make, you’ll just love it.
In this recipe I have used canned tuna fish. You could use any other canned fish of your choice. Alternately, you could also use fresh tuna or any other fresh fish like mackerel, kingfish or even fresh prawns or shrimps. But just steam the fish before using it.

Did you know Tuna Fish is called ‘Kupa’ in Marathi
You can also make these tuna croquettes in advance and refrigerate them until you plan to serve them. Since we fry the onions before adding them to the croquettes, they have a longer shelf life.

How to make Tuna Croquettes at home
Canned Tuna Fish – I used only one small can of tuna fish for this croquettes recipe. Drain all the liquid from the can and use only the tuna flesh for making the croquettes.
Mashed Potato -Boil one medium-sized potato and mash it with a fork. You may like to skip the potato or substitute it with bread slices instead. Soak the bread slices in water or milk and then squeeze out all the liquid before adding to the tuna mixture.
- Gather the Ingredients.
- Mashed Potato – 2 medium-sized or 1 large
- One medium onion, a few green chillies, and chopped ginger.
- Pepper powder – 1 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Juice of 1/2 a lemon
- One egg-yolk ( beat the egg white and keep aside)
- Coriander leaves, at least 1/4 cup
- Salt to taste
Combine all these ingredients to make a smooth mixture for the croquettes. These croquettes are mild on spices, but nonetheless, they have just the right flavour and spices required for fish. Do not skip pepper powder in this recipe.
Add the Canned Tuna Fish. Drain all the liquid from the can of tuna and shred the tuna into small bits.
Combine the shredded Tuna with all the other ingredients and shape the mixture into croquettes. Be gentle while mixing and don’t worry about the larger bits of tuna and potato.
Frying the Croquettes
After you have shaped all the croquettes, get them ready for frying. Beat an egg white and dip each croquette one at a time into the beaten egg white and then roll into the breadcrumbs.
Next, shallow fry the croquettes in hot oil until they get a lovely golden crunch. You could also deep fry the croquettes if you like. Seve hot and Enjoy!

How To Make Tuna Croquettes
- Drain the Tuna and put it into a large bowl and shred into small pieces.
- Add in the mashed potato
- In a pan heat 1 tbsp oil and fry the chopped onion, green chillies and ginger till the onions are translucent. Add this to the tuna and potato.
- Add pepper powder, egg yolk only, juice of ½ a lemon, salt to taste, coriander leaves and garam masala powder.
- Mix well and shape them into croquettes.
- Dip each croquette into the egg white and roll into the bread crumbs.

Notes
- Mix the croquettes mixture and keep the small bits of tuna and potato intact. This gives a nice texture to the finished croquettes.
- When you beat the egg white, add 1 tbsp water to it. It makes it easier to dip in the croquettes.
- Add salt to taste, approx. 1 tsp.
- Add extra chillies, if you need it to be more spicy.
- Do not over fry the croquettes. Fry only till you get a nice golden crunch.
